Before blaming your internet plan, check the basics. Most Wi-Fi problems come from router placement, interference or too many devices.
Try these in order
- Restart the router. Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Move the router. Place it in a central, open, raised spot, away from thick walls, microwaves and cordless phones.
- Use the 5 GHz band. It is faster than 2.4 GHz at short range. Use 2.4 GHz for devices that are far from the router.
- Update the router firmware. Log in to the router settings page and check for updates.
- Disconnect unused devices. Every connected phone, TV and camera shares the same bandwidth.
- Test with a cable. Connect a computer by Ethernet and run a speed test. If the wired speed is also slow, the issue is the plan or the provider.
If the problem continues, a mesh Wi-Fi system or a second access point can help in large homes.
